Mercury One always has and always will support our veterans: America’s heroes.
As we approached Memorial Day, 2016, Mercury One asked its supporters to remember the true meaning of the holiday. It’s not about the mattress sale or the paid vacation day – it’s about one of America’s greatest assets… our military. To honor our nation’s veterans and to refocus on the meaning behind Memorial Day, Mercury One urged its donors to support one of our veterans partners: 22KILL.
#22KILL is a global movement started by Honor Courage Commitment, Inc. in 2013 in response to research that found that a staggering 22 vets commit suicide each day due to PTS (Post Traumatic Stress) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). The #22Kill movement works to not only educate the public about the issues that lead to suicide, but also to restore a vet’s sense of purpose after his/her time serving in the armed forces. HCC’s mission is to focus on research to understand the epidemic, identify the triggers that lead a vet to commit suicide, and educate the public about the growing problem; #22KILL provided a platform to bring the issue of veteran suicide to light.
HCC and 22KILL also work with first responders, firefighters, EMT, and policemen and women, who also experience traumas in their line of work. HCC and 22KILL work to bring our vet’s talents to the forefront and ensure value in their lives outside of the military. The goal is to empower those who have made a commitment to protect our communities and our nation.
