Donated Ambucycle Helps United Hatzalah Save a Life
Over the past few years, Mercury One has proudly partnered with United Hatzalah: a volunteer, community-based, medical first-response nonprofit in Israel that provides EMS care to patients free of charge. Since our partnership began, we’ve donated to United Hatzalah a number of “ambucycles,” or medically-equipped motorcycles, which allow volunteers to maneuver crowded streets and arrive at the scene of a medical emergency in a matter of minutes. The United Hatzalah team, comprised of 3,500+ volunteers who respond to more than 800 calls every day, saves thousands of lives each year. Promoting a mission that aligns with our own, United Hatzalah restores the human spirit by offering services to all who need it, regardless of race, religion, or political affiliation.
On Monday, we received an email from United Hatzalah team member Micha, describing how an ambucycle you had helped to support saved a life. We invite you to read the email below:
Dear M1 team,
Your ambucycle #773 enabled Amir to save a life!
On a recent Friday afternoon, Amir was at home when his United Hatzalah radio alerted him to a nearby emergency: <<adult female – sudden cardiac arrest>>. Knowing that every second could mean the difference between life and death, Amir flew to the scene on your ambucycle, arriving first on site. He grabbed his medical kit and rushed into the apartment, greeted by the woman’s grandson who led him to where she lay pulseless on the couch.
Together, the men gently lowered her to the floor and Amir launched into vigorous heart massage, keeping oxygenated blood circulating to her brain and heart muscle. Four minutes later, he was joined by a United Hatzalah paramedic. The paramedic intubated the patient, provided assisted ventilations, and then administered adrenaline as Amir continued the strenuous chest compressions.
Soon, a paramedic from another organization was on site, seamlessly joining the battle to save the woman’s life. After a lengthy resuscitation effort, the paramedic was ready to “call it” when the woman’s pulse and blood pressure miraculously returned! She was then rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
Without a doubt, it was Amir’s rapid arrival, made possible by your ambucycle, that saved this woman’s life. As in every case of sudden cardiac arrest, the first few minutes are vital to the success of the resuscitation. Thank you for partnering with United Hatzalah!
We’d like to pass Micha’s gratitude on to YOU, our generous donors. It was your compassionate gifts to United Hatzalah through Mercury One that funded the ambucycle that helped save a life.
